Taste Test: Goldkey dreams only ‘In the Background’
The folk musician lets his mind truly wander in a new song.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
Dreams are cogs in a make-believe machine, constantly configuring a million different possibilities. In any given moment, our minds seem endless as we bound far and away from the present to stage what could or should be. Concocting his own version of reality, New York’s lo-fi folksmith Goldkey (real name Mike Horn) brandishes harmonious string work and pitter-patter of a drum kit for a fantastical adventure only day dreaming could churn together. “I’ve got a hideout,” he confides. His magical whisperings unearth a sense of grandeur and wonder so often lost in the world to unimaginable mayhem and destruction. So, then, he turns to the halls of his brain to medicate and even guide us into a warm moment of solace.
“In the Background” serves as the opening track to his new EP, Background, out everywhere now.
