Home is less a physical structure than it is the people, the experiences, the warmth that grows from within. When you lose a vital player in your life, it can feel like home doesn’t mean much of anything anymore. Indie-folk songbird Hannah Connolly peers into the nature swelling around her, a woodlands that towers high above her head, and feels the tremendous loss of her brother. “House/Home” crackles with the sobering reality that a life severely extinguished casts outward ripples that’ll never dissipate, and soon, what’s left of the daylight shall, too, pass from this earth. “I don’t want to live without you / This house ain’t home without you,” she sings. Her voice gently quakes with the stark reminder that there will be before and after, a divisive splinter that cuts her life into brutally contrasting halves.
“House/Home” is the second single from Connolly’s forthcoming debut album, expected later this year.
