Taste Test: Hazlett accepts that we’re all ‘Monsters’
The indie-pop singer-songwriter opens himself up to grow and learn.

It might not be evident in the moment, but we thrive on a messy existence. When the storm clouds part, revealing a baby blue ocean, it’s only then it all becomes quite clear. Indie-pop singer-songwriter Hazlett‘s “Monsters” embraces the angst, the terribly unreliable ways of man, the enlightenment that will surely come when a new dawn breaks. “Time to come out / It’s hard to find the chemistry clocked with insecurity,” he sings. His voice whispers across windy guitar work and a drum kit that sends a shock through his system; it’s within the song’s rich layers that he comes to accept the past. “We’re human; we’re gonna make mistakes,” he’s said of the song, crisp and resonant.
“Monsters” samples his forthcoming new EP, tentatively expected in 2020.
