2020 arrived as a transformative year for most people. During lockdown, many singers and songwriters were left to their imaginations and pens to conjure up emotional currency to cope and push through troubling times. For New Hampshire-based artist Heather Pierson, she took to experiencing immense gratitude for her life. With the world’s weight firmly on her shoulders, she wrote “Feel Something,” a jazzy little number about feeling thankful and accepting what is.

“Leave behind your worry and doubt,” she coos over a blanket of snow-like piano. “Get out there and feel something / Find out what you’re all about.” Pierson’s voice is as light as a robin’s gentle flight, fluttering to and fro in the breeze and inviting the listener into her warm embrace.

“Do you remember when you were a kid and so enamored by everything you did,” she continues in the second verse. “And then your life took a turn / And in your grown-up ways, you were set.” Her words fall like orbs in the sky, first teetering in the air before crashing into the atmosphere like a meteor. But that’s just her way. Pierson crafts her work with great attention to the emotional effects it has over the audience. Simply put: it’s mesmerizing.

On the song, she shares, “In that strange summer of 2020 when we were all stuck in one place for a while, I was really grateful to be stuck at home in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This song that came out of both the yearning and the gratitude I felt during that time.”

“Feel Something” samples a forthcoming new album, Back to the Light, out everywhere on September 27. Don’t miss it!
