A first heartbreak is never easy. “Why can’t I wipe them away?” wonders pop trio Hello Sister about the tears streaming down their faces. With “17,” the group experiences young love and the inevitable break-up, enduring unimaginable pain throbbing in their chests. “I told myself I didn’t care,” the band sings, trying to convince themselves that they don’t hurt. “17” contains glossy production, clattering guitars, and heart-palpitating drums, which all conspire to punctuate the lyrics’ emotional heft. It’s almost deceptive, but the group’s words prick the skin like thorns. It’s inescapable.
