Taste Test: Her Mountain Majesty brings a tear to the eye with ‘Reckless’
The folk singer saturates her newest single in learnt wisdom and deep emotion
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
With a beautiful fingerstyle guitar opening recorded in a room of natural reverb, Her Mountain Majesty instantly prepares you for a musically breathtaking experience. Soon afterwards comes the smooth singing of a violin, sensitively complimenting the guitar with every bowing. However, the stunner in “Reckless” is not the strings or the acoustics but Her Mountain Majesty (aka Andi Lee Scher) herself. Scher alternates between pain-filled voice cracking vocals and silky smooth peace-inducing tones. “I wanna fill my cup/I wanna stay up all night/drinking too much/and I wanna feel your beating heart/I will travel round the world to be wherever you are” Scher divulges. The song tells the tale of an impulsive and emotionally intense relationship that Scher now recognises wasn’t built to last. “Reckless” gives the listener a sense of looking into a deep lake, marveling at the unravelling of an artist’s soul.
