Taste Test: Honestly travel back to ‘San Francisco’
The indie pop duo transport back to a former relationship’s heyday.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
Nostalgia can be confusing. In an attempt to assuage heartbreak, a terribly crushing one at that, indie pop duo Honestly ⏤ of Eric Canto and Dalton Winters ⏤ teleport back in time to when the relationship was tangy and sweet. On “San Francisco,” the pair bask in the past’s enveloping shimmers, enticing the listener to get lost in not only their romanticization of events but sweeping synthwork. “You know that I”m still in love with you,” they confess. Such an emotional gut-check stages the exact weight of the song’s gravity, so when they long to go back to “what it was before,” you’re prepared. Still, Honestly’s emotion rains hot and thick, and you feel the downpour.
“San Francisco” samples their forthcoming album, Inside Your Eyes, Without You Beside Me, out everywhere next Friday (June 19). All proceeds will benefit Grassroots Law.
