Living as your most authentic self takes an immense amount of bravery. Once you step out into the light, you feel an invigoration you’ve never felt before. It’s about owning your narrative, reclaiming your self-worth, and discarding others’ opinions of you. Out of Florida, power-pop queen J Blue, who grew up in a very strict Baptist family, comes into her own with the glitter-bomb of a dance track. With “Pride,” an apt name arriving in a time of heated social and political upheaval, she emerges as a true voice, howling her way from a gentle confessional into a fiery, unapologetic queer club banger. “My life will be mine,” she coos. Once the production descends in a cloud of confetti, her new self rises with an exhilarating high.
