Taste Test: J-LINE loses himself in synths & smoke in new video, ‘Redo’
The NYC synth-pop performer yearns for an ex (and honestly, same).
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
We’ve all been desperate. That’s just the human way. We’re desperate for attention, love, compassion. And when a heartbreak occurs, you may as well just embrace it. New York’s synth-pop purveyor J-LINE lets himself go in a cloud of smoke, synths, and desperation. With his new visual for “Redo,” a glistening and heavenly escape, he admits he’s still hung up on his ex. “Late at night when the city sleeps / Do you let your body think of me / Wrap yourself inside the fantasy / Of me here waiting,” he sings. His wispy vocals fade into the bursts of color that consume him, and his own inner fantasies spill out onto the page with an alluring performance. While smoke billows, colors splash, and the production runs high-octane, there remains a vulnerability, too; closeups of J-LINE’s penetrating gaze can only make his ex super jealous. There’s no other way.
