Time seems to stop when you’re going through a breakup. Two moments, the before and after, seem to play on the same reel, imagers overlaid, and you can’t slow it down or speed it up. Sensitive pop songwriter JC Stewart finds himself trapped in between, and his song “Lying That You Love Me,” paired with a music video directed by Sophie King, attempts to work through this weirdly evocative time loop. “I miss you lying that you love me,” he confesses. He slides between the past and the present, and the images still rub raw and red. But it’s the kind of processing that must take place, perhaps him bleeding a bit more, to lead to true freedom.
