Suicide rates are reportedly the highest they’ve been in 90 years. The decayed state of humanity has, you could say, never been quite on this scale in all of history. Indie-folk musician Jeryko feels the weight of the world crush his shoulders, not for himself but for those who have snuffed out life before it was time. With “What Will Your Mother Say,” a performance carved of empathy and heart, he extends a warm, inviting hand to a friend whose life ended before it had really begun. “You think the world will go on without you, but you’re wrong,” he sings, letting his tears flood out of him. Clocking in at nearly four minutes, the song’s message doesn’t condescend; in fact, it only searches for answers that may never be unlocked completely. He frames the story with immense poetry, as he tugs former and present lives along for a gliding journey through darkness and back again.
