Taste Test: Jim and Sam are ‘Calling It Quits’ on self-doubt
The LA roots duo juggle courage and self-doubt with their new anthem.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
Self-doubt and its many demonic offspring are as roots swallowing the earth. The journey outward is as much an inward dissection of worth and self-induced suffocation. Folksy duo Jim and Sam ⏤ of Jim Hanft and Samantha Yonack ⏤ mingle their raging inner voices, ones seeking to destroy at all costs, with a slice of overwhelming hope in the form of their new song “Calling It Quits,” whose sweaty pulse mimics that of a real heartbeat gasping for relief. “Could it be that we’re stuck here / And not too proud / Maybe we’re just not fit for the fight,” the pair examine their mental states before resolving to snap the strings. They are quick to confront their anguish, often echoing off one another, and in doing so, they stumble right out into the light for a revolution they won’t soon forget.
“Calling It Quits” serves as the backdrop to their new documentary, After So Many Days, which details their ambitious 365-day tour.
