Taste Test: Johannes Gerstengarbe summons summer joy with “Perfect”

I get very excited when summery wholesome fun is distilled into a musical format. Johannes Gerstengarbe has absolutely nailed it with his single “Perfect”. This alt-pop song is the perfect combination age-old contentment (“All my troubles wave goodbye/I watch old memories go by”) and childlike innocent joy. Even in the music video, the unrestrained happiness is palpable. Gerstengarbe is not afraid to pull faces or do silly walks, and this attitude is very much the energy brought to the music as well. The bouncy drumbeat supports an equally exuberant electric guitar, as it sprinkles short but expressive solos throughout the song. The other instruments seem to dance along with the drumbeat, making this a very difficult song to resist. And why try? It’s summer – have some fun and stick this song on!
