The allure of Hollywood comes with a heavy price. Thousands make the pilgrimage to the west coast with the hope for fame and fortune. But it’s never like what they say it is. It’s much harder. Genre-bending mastermind Josh Stevens, most known for his work with Calvin Harris, LMFAO and Jennifer Lopez, among others, documents the thrilling escapade through the streets of Los Angeles, weaving in and out of neon lights and billboard signs. “Somewhere” is an unfiltered declaration of every dizzying high and the inevitable lows, and his voice swings from pop-rock mountain climbing to a hip-hop slither through valleys of darkness. “Hollywood, you get lost in the hills,” he sings. The visual is grainy and visceral, too, shot with both the intent to offer hope and chronicle raw reality.
“Somewhere” is the first taste of new solo music since 2015’s Story of Summer EP.
