Taste Test: Jove Satara pulls no punches with ’20/20′
The Jakarta-based pop artist wants to change your perspective
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
The first thing you notice when you press play on Jove Satara’s new single is the snare/bass riff that hits you instantly in the chest. The song doesn’t get any less visceral. “Broke my teeth and cracked my skull/Guess that’s kinda outta line/But I’m tough, so I get up/I still feel undefeated”. The Indonesian newcomer Satara makes no effort to restrain himself, as he advocates for us to change our perspective in bad situations and to keep fighting. “Put it in your goddamn perspective/a fresher hell/if you ain’t living like you’re fighting then change your lens” he declares boldly. The pop singer utilizes a combination of gritty rhythm tracks, sound effects that compliment Satara’s powerful lyrics, and a mix of different background vocals to create a cathartic and satisfying track. After the madness of 2020, this is the perfect fighting song to psych yourself up with.
