Heartbreak is the fastest track to rock bottom. It’ll happen sooner or later, and it’ll never not hollow you out completely. Country singer-songwriter Julia Vos picks herself up off the ground after an especially devastating breakup, her heart still exposed and shivering. “Stay” is cut from the signature bar weeper style of recovery, and her voice contains the classic country tear with a potency all its own. “I know we can’t turn back the time,” she sighs. “And I know I can’t change your mind / But I wish on every star / Say another prayer / That one day when I wake up, you might still be there.” She wanders the halls of the relationship’s past, and only her soft cries echo back to her. Worn and weathered, Vos soon steps into blinding sunlight, and the tender glow reminds her that it all gets better with time.
