Taste Test: Kane Miller swaps out guitar for heartstrings in ‘Catch My Heart’

The Canadian singer-songwriter pours all his emotions into a quiet masterpiece

Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

Sometimes the best place to write is away from the world. Kane Miller has taken advantage of the current situation to shut himself away in a cabin in rural Ontario. This quiet solitude has produced a thoughtful and intimate song on relationship anxieties. “Well tell me that you need me, everything will be alright/Because it’s hard for me to fake it, anxious doesn’t suit me right” he confesses. As the song builds, Kane’s soft voice and fingerpicking guitar style is joined by a subtle grounding bass, angelic piano harmonies and a beat so soft it feels like delicate kisses dropped on the chorus. The lyrics are poetic, bursting at the seams with metaphors and similes. There is a sense that Kane is allowing us a glimpse into his most private of inner worlds. Despite the gentle tones, his vulnerability and emotion makes his music hit much harder than it otherwise would. A truly moving song.
