Taste Test: Kat Saul drags out all her ‘Monsters’
The pop upstart exposes her many demons.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones.
“I can’t even take a breath without bleeding,” yowls Kat Saul. Ghouls and goblins have come to play; the pop upstart is speaking metaphorically, of course, drawing comparisons to adult failures like mental health and other brain-throbbing injuries. With “Monsters,” she rips back the bed clothes and drags her many demons out by the ankles into the sunlight. “And it’s not enough / Just to get by when I’m trying my best,” she later wrestles. A monster rally is reaching its bloody apex inside her head, with no possibility of it ever stopping. But in her confrontational confessions, Saul is conquering them one by one, whether she actually realizes it or not. It’s always an ongoing war, yet she has at least suited up with brand new shimmering armor.
