Loss is one of those bewitching little creatures that creeps up in your dreams. You might even be wide awake, and it’ll sink its talons into your brain. It’s a weight we all carry, a tremendous one that sends out fluttering ripples into every part of our lives. Calling to the untimely, tragic passing of one friend’s fiancé, Austin’s country pillar Kathryn Legendre weeps gentle tears, ones that quiver with unimaginable agony, on her new song. “There You Go” is put through the wash of lonesome holler country tradition, and her voice tenderly delivers the storyline with great care, allowing her friend’s pain to seep into her performance with visceral edge. “There you go again / And here I am alone,” she sings, situating the wayward troubadour’s new journey into the great wide yonder. She squeezes the melody, and only the scratch of fiddle can really soothe any ounce of the pain. Time will surely do the rest.
“There You Go” is lifted from Legendre’s new EP, Making It Up, out everywhere now.
