Standing up for what you believe in takes guts. And you must be willing to sacrifice it all and keep a clear conscious while you do it. Central Texas troubadour Kevin Ratliff opens up about his skirmish with local politicians on his new song. With “I Can Sleep,” devilishly smokey and forever evergreen, he admits that he would never have changed a single thing about his actions. “I can sleep at night, can you?” he proposes on the hook, more of a self-reflective confession at the start. But that quickly expands as he takes his pen to dig deeper into the ravages of the current climate. “What you’ve done ain’t right / It ain’t true,” he sings. Ratliff lays it all out on the line, further cementing his own personal truths right in the spotlight. He stakes his claim clearly in the dust, and we should all be paying rapt attention.
