Taste Test: KINLEY still marches for ‘Washington’
The indie-folk singer looks back at the 2017 Women’s March.

January 21, 2017 is an important moment in history. Throngs of women and allies descended down upon not only Washington, DC but countless cities around the world, including Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, for the Women’s March of equality. Reflecting upon her own experience, local indie-folk singer-songwriter Kinley Dowling – known professionally as simply KINLEY – honors the tireless efforts to affect change with her marching band-laced song called “Washington.” Three years later, the song re-ignites the hope-gilded determination never to back down nor give in to the powers that be. “I’ll walk with you every day of the week,” she reminds. There is an enticing elegance to the performance, enveloping and encouraging, and KINLEY’s warble goes down even smoother.
“Washington” is lifted from KINLEY’s new self-titled album, out everywhere tomorrow (February 21).
