Taste Test: Kodey Brims leaves behind only ‘Red Dust’
The smokey Americana newcomer leaves behind her loneliness on a new song.

Clouds of dust puff and tumble across the Australian desert. There’s really not much difference to the human existence. Our conditions certainly change, but at the root of it all, we’re all just trying to learn and grow. Brisbane singer-songwriter Kodey Brims likens the scorched patches of earth to that overwhelming sensation of loneliness and wandering through cursed fates to find some kind of guiding light. “Red Dust” echoes across the wasteland, and even her marsh-like vocals inhabit that space between lonesome and loss. “I’m thirsty / And I’m yearning to fill the emptiness inside,” she sings. Drums ramble around her, casting a soft, smokey swirl overhead. She’s an outlaw traipsing town to town for some kind of urgent solvent, and only in time will she uncover her personal truths.
“Red Dust” is the latest single from Brims’ upcoming new EP, Out of My Hands, expected everywhere later this year.
