Navigating adulthood can seem like fruitless endeavors to keep your head afloat. We’re not alone in finding ourselves wandering aimlessly from time to time; in fact, even the prolific painter Vincent Van Gogh underwent his own such voyage in his lifetime. Sloshing through waters of uncertainty and place-finding, pop’s newest treasure kwassa (real name Scott Verrill) hits up the dance floor with a lite-house cut called “Better,” containing a thunderous smattering of drums laced over subtle guitar picks that peek between the sheets. “I like it better / Pain and the pleasure / When we’re together,” he sings of sewing up life’s duality on fabric made of synthetics. He shimmers and he shakes as a way to work through his feelings, and while the problems may never fully dissipate, he’ll be better equipped to conquer them down the road.
“Better” is ripped from his new EP, fka kyko, out everywhere now.
