The country artist shows America through the lens of an immigrant

With a warm golden hum, Larry Lacerte’s newest single “Patchwork Flag” greets you with the familiarity of an old friend’s hug. Lacerte’s voice is as smooth as syrup as it takes its time melting over the rhythmic beat of the bass and the strings. Within the layers of harmonies, the song tells the tale of a patchwork flag made up of cultures, immigrants and stories. “I go to work for a country/and tell me I don’t belong/sewing flags in a factory/been at it since dawn” Lacerte hums. “Patchwork Flag” honours the Americana roots of the genre by highlighting the heritage of America as a country of immigrants. “It’s all just patchwork/stitching together scraps/ooo patchwork flag” Lacerte concludes.
