Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

Summertime as a kid was a special time for a lot of people. There’s the innocence of playing dodgeball in the street, catching fireflies just at dusk, and staying up way too late watching TGIF. Electro-pop performer Local Nomad (real name Michael Desmond) captures the heat and the thrill of his own youth, particularly playing baseball with his buddies. The aptly-titled “Summertimes” sparks a fizz as bubbly as a flute of champagne while also heaving an especially emotional weight, as he reflects on how playing baseball directly led to realizing he had a tumor. He underwent surgery and healed in time, of course, but that moment in his life carries with it a bittersweet sheen. Despite it all, he longs for simpler times. “In my little town, we grew up having big dreams,” he recollects. “Was hoping we could scream like when we were 17.”

“Summertime” bookends Local Nomad’s new self-titled EP, out everywhere now.
