Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

The probability you’ll get your heart broken, the one that’ll devastate and crush you completely, runs pretty high. Lovesick yet forlorn, Boston alt-pop archer Lorelei Marchell is hit with a two-ton of bricks upon a breakup, and through her new single, she struggles to make sense of it all. “The Truth,” coursing with palpable pain and diamond-shaped teardrops, bends between organic guitar sputters and metallic synths that allow her to find both solace and redemption. “Maybe I should be the one to decide if it meant something / Maybe I should be the one to decide how I should be feeling / You should be the one to decide what your next move is now that I know what the truth is,” she sings. She addresses her ex’s cheating ways, while letting her heart feel whatever it is going to feel. Only 16, Marcell possesses maturity well beyond her years to deal with misery in a very real, tangible way, and her voice rises as a suitable, sterling vehicle for such a universal story.

“The Truth” follows on the heels of Marcell’s debut entry, “Losing Myself,” from earlier this year.
