There’s a dichotomy ingrained in dying embers. We learn to accept the pain in its every shade, often at the expense of a love so deep that it runs in our blood, but the journey inward has come with a heavy price that we’ll never get back. It’s healthy to let go, yet we remain haunted by such a notion. Norwegian folk singer and songwriter Louien (Miranda Solberg) cranks her heart like a wind-up toy in hopes of obtaining the truth she once knew and cherished. With “Be Forgiven,” a honeysuckle of an enchanting song, Solberg wiggles in her numbness as she juggles the past with reconciliation, a side-show act we all must attempt sooner or later. “If you’ll stay, then I’ll stay / And we’ll forgive…and be forgiven,” she sings, the once-potent misery fading like a crescent moon at break of day.
“Be Forgiven” serves as an essential piece to a forthcoming, yet-unnamed album, expected later this year.
