Taste Test: LOWERCASE committee yearn to break free with new song, ‘Wake Me Up’
The synth bedroom pop/rock band struggling between bliss and terror.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
In a vein akin to Billie Eilish’s “bury a friend,” lo-fi pop band LOWERCASE committee succumb to a nightmare’s imposing jaws and its jagged incisors. “Wake Me Up” stands in start contrast, however, a bit more celestial, as their bodies thrash somewhere between a slumbering bliss and ravaging terror. The band ⏤ of frontman Keenan Fitzgerald (rhythm guitar, keys), Brady Fitzgerald (vocals, bass), Austin Fitzgerald (lead guitar), and Michael Burger (drums) ⏤ hangs in the balance, and swirls of bedroom synths quake around them. “I just need one chance to force myself awake / And then, I’ll see that I have life again” trickles from their lips. It might just all be a figment, and even in such a muted performance, there is a ripe urgency lapping in the mix.
