David Provenzano sinks you into a bed of melancholy. Known professionally as Margot Polo, the singer-songwriter bends musical light, both the synthetic and organic, into a colorful array. “This Old Thing” gently taps the eardrums with striking piano chords and mechanical raindrops, as he clutches tighter to the precious. Whether that’s a person, relationship, or a memory, he crashes the senses with a deeply-human longing. “Wrote you a song / But the words came out all wrong,” he agonizes over getting it just right. Emotional strains rise and fall amidst a gaping soundscape that you can never quite define. It’s within such adeptness that he truly excels.
