Taste Test: Mark Lanky asks outright, ‘Don’t You Miss Me?’
The Maryland country crooner yearns for a former lover on his new classic tune.

“Absence makes the heart grow fonder,” as they say. Even in heartbreak, the heart wants what the heart wants. You can fight it, but it’ll all come back around one way or another. Sleepless and uneasy, classic country crooner Mark Lanky stokes the all-consuming flames of his heart with fresh, new coal. The fire rages even higher than before, and on his song “Don’t You Miss Me?,” a bellowing bass timbre and hearty Jim Reeves and Roy Orbison blend, the Maryland singer and songwriter drags the listener through the embers extracted from his throbbing chest. Guitar cries in the countrypolitan soundscape, as Lanky appears to take a lonesome solo waltz right across the ballroom floor. His tears crash on the hardwood like diamonds, but he doesn’t take much notice. The rose-tinted memories of time gone by flood his mind, and he quickly loses all sense on his reality.
“Don’t You Miss Me?” follows “Slowly Fading Away” from earlier this year.
