Taste Test: Me Nd Adam balance duality on their new song, ‘Heartbreak Kid’
The alternative duo lament being in between young and growing old.

Mankind needs duality. Night and day. Pain and joy. Stagnation and growth. It was out of such mental exploration that self-described trash-wave duo Me Nd Adam was born. On “Heartbreak Kid,” the alternative duo round their lyrics with contrasting points of view in a way that both immerses in youthful angst and the dread of getting older. “Too young to die / Too old to talk shit,” the hook clatters and vibrates. Adam and Vince first hated each other, literally, when they first met years ago in New Orleans, and that visceral tension electrifies throughout the dive-bar beat and the innately grimy movement. An acoustic guitar spin in the intro, and the synthetic quickly slaps in polluted waves. Therein lies their charm: they’re polished but dirty, accessible but detached, charming but listless.
