Taste Test: Moonlight Breakfast leap back to their youthful ‘Summer’
Dreamy pop band cherish the summers of their youth with a new song.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
We waste our youth without ever realizing it. When we’re 16, unconcerned with impending adulthood and its imposing doom, we are as ever-present as we might ever be in our lifetime. We’re simply creatures at the mercy of time, sands that fall unceremoniously through an hourglass. Sticking their hands back through time and space, dreamy pop band Moonlight Breakfast are transportive and transformational with their single “Summer,” which stands frozen between youthful naivety and being woke. Surfy, foamy rock smacks against furious synths, and Christie’s voice is at times wistful, other times married to the enrapturing beauty growing from her soul. “Summer nights keep me up / I wanna waste time just looking up at the sky,” she sings, unfolding the present as a crisp Christmas-morning package.
“Summer” samples the band’s new album, Affection, out May 17 on Echoism Records Paris / The Orchard.
