Bonnie Beecher is one of legend. She vanished nearly as quickly as she appeared. Making her TV debut in 1964 on an episode of The Twilight Zone, and having recorded her only song called “Come Wander with Me” (written by Jeff Alexander and Anthony Wilson), Beecher is a mysterious siren of popular culture. Twisting the song deeper into a more macabre, grittier hole, London-looting Moontwin ⏤ of Maple Bee and Zac Kuzmanov ⏤ delight in a tale of harrowing folklore in their vision of such a dire lamentation that’ll never break free from the other side. “He came from the sunset / He came from the sea / He came from my sorrow / And can love only me,” Bee’s voice cherishes the classic film noir style while allowing herself to find new layers. Kuzmanov, then, drives the melody even further into a dark, imposing abyss that taunts them and promises to swallow them both whole.
