It’s hard to tell what integrity is anymore. We see it misrepresented all over the news these days. So much so, it feels like we’re living in some cosmic Upside Down. One-half of altnerative duo The Bergamot, Nathaniel Paul steps out with his first solo piece called “Virtues,” a percussive march dedicate to his late grandmother. “How can I live this way?” he ponders. A haunting gasp rushes behind his ears, and a clatter of drums and other instruments pour like rain. Puddles form, and Paul stomps out his anger, alighting upon the truth that beauty and real honesty is in the air we breathe and the sun in which we bathe. The accompanying visual depicts an otherwise ho-hum day, as a young person strolls through his home, a thick blue haze wrapped around him, and gets dressed for the day. There is true, remarkable beauty in the mundane.
