Taste Test: Nick Nash turns to ‘Blood Over Water’
the singer-songwriter dissects rifts within a family.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
Rifts and clashes are expected within the familial structure. It’s when it gets dangerously volatile and toxic that the outward bangs and flashes can rip you apart. Americana singer-songwriter Nick Nash mourns such a terribly sorrowful state with his new song. “Blood Over Water” surges from his pain, a well that gushes from his core, unstoppable and fierce, and his voice is magnetizing in heavy melancholy. There’s a resignation that guides him along, as if totally depleted of any strength and will. “Shoot your arrows if you want to / Drop your bombs if you feel the need,” he sings. He’s accepted the truth, but it doesn’t make it that much easier to swallow. He lets the punches hit him, and eventually, he’s totally unfazed by it.
“Blood Over Water” is from Nash’s new album, Fortress of Gold, out everywhere now.
