Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

Life can wring you dry. But sorrow often leaves residue on our souls. Those imprints are heavier than we anticipate, so it can feel as though your constantly trudging through the mud. Indie-folk trio Oh Reach ⏤ a masterful team-up of Marcus Gordon (of Spookyland) , Terry Serio and The Tambourine Girls’ Simon Relf ⏤ dream of a solitary place amidst the turmoil. The eye of the storm, one firmly rooted between ravaging tentacles, seems to alleviate the toil and trouble bubbling beneath the surface. “I Am Lucky Man” is gentle to the touch, yet it unpacks a hefty performance that envelopes the listener from the inside out. “You don’t have to smile / I don’t care if you’re sad / You can’t be up all the time / It doesn’t make you bad,” sings Relf, the harmony lapping up around him. His caresses operate as warm validation as much as a healing agent; it might not solve all the problems of the world, but at least they’re trying.

“I Am Lucky Man” is lifted from the trio’s collaborative self-titled album, out everywhere now.
