Taste Test: Olive B wants to be your ‘Playmate’
Alt-pop newcomer sets her sights on love with her new smoldering tune.

Pat Benatar was right. Love is a battlefield. You ride off into combat with only your heart in your arsenal, and no matter how lovesick you might feel, there’s no way to know what is yet to come. Tracing her silky vocal cords through the ash of a recent skirmish, smoldering and hot, alt-pop purveyor Olive B tugs her lover into her orbit and sets matters as straight as she can. “You pull me in and cut me loose / I’m right here, now where are you,” she coos. Her heart trembles for the intimacy for which she is so desperately hungry. She lays all her cards on the table, for better or for worse, but somehow, the flood of flies spilling from her lover’s mouth captivates her even more. “I could do you right,” she whispers, training an unwavering gaze on her target. Her presence is one of spectacular command, as if a hunter stalking down whimpering prey, and she won’t be stopped.
“Playmate” is Olive B’s first single of 2019.
