The folk-rock musician impresses with a gutting performance on his second song.

We’re wired all the same. That’s what connects us. When you prick us, we bleed. If you rend our heart in two, we shatter to the floor. Irish folk-rock singer-songwriter Paddy Mahon feels every bloody scrap and bruise of it, from the tear-soaked melodrama to mending his brokenness to possibly fall back into old habits. His gravely, gutting rasp is the glue to hold his ferociously evocative new song “Home” together; it’s only his second-ever release, but his artistry lies high. “Been waiting here too long for you to come home,” he sharpens his teeth. The bitterness and the memories of that initial blunt force comes seeping back into his conscious, so he strips away any momentary bliss for a vocal attack that is truly gripping.
“Home” is the follow-up to Mahon’s debut single, “Crossroads,” from earlier this year.
