Singer-songwriter Pieternel finds brilliant new clarity through an acoustic rendering of her song “Underneath This Skin.” An acoustic guitar picks through the rubble of her heart – tatters and other fleshy bits strewn about. “I know it’s easy to wear a mask, put on a show / The hard part is letting go,” she sings, a sweetness dripping from her tongue. The pain has since subsided, and she now rises into the sunshine that now seeks to consume her. And it’s quite alright. She deserves this moment to burn as bright as the sun. There’s no turning back now.
