Premiere: Pink Neighbor succumb to the haze of ‘Green Light Nights’ in new video
The Iowa band comb classic pop and rock for a gloriously bedeviling new music video.
Amber lights cast a warm glow, washing away the grime of the city, and voices clink together like chimes against tall glasses of tap beer and humming automobiles. The door stands open, the street noise spilling into the hole-in-the-wall that swiftly takes on a life of its own. The local social hub is a blur of meet-ups and hang-outs, companions and acquaintances uniting for booze and recollections of the past, and soon, the hours tick by and a euphoric haze descends upon the wanders. Iowa band Pink Neighbor plant themselves right in the middle of such a scene, a coolly-lit hipster lounge that calls to smokey clubs that may have witnessed the likes of Frank Sinatra. The video to “Green Light Nights,” premiering today, is a snaky, groovy piece that floods the senses with psychedelic Rorschach tests and a neon lamp’s sweet caresses.
“Green light nights, green light nights / I’m gonna take you there,” the enchantment spills from the band’s lips. Of Katie In, Erik Jarvis, Carlos Ferguson and Phill Smith, the Mid-west outfit beckon you into their sphere, equipped with a stunning rose-tipped melody seeping right into the skin. It pulses through your system, and before long, your troubles seem to vanish into a cloud of heavenly bliss and ’70s nostalgia. The visual, edited by Paul Dampier, quickly feels the rush of camaraderie, and its intoxication penetrates right through the screen for a full-body immersion. The green hue hits the senses as any witchy conjuring is apt to do, but it’s their musical skill, bending classic pop and rock music, that is altogether arresting.
On the visual, the band writes to B-Sides & Badlands over email: “‘Green Light Nights’ is about being creative and spontaneous with your adventures, not necessarily sticking to the script. We kept the video close to home, shooting the party footage at a space on our friends’ farm that was modeled to look and feel like a real cocktail lounge,” they detail. “We knew we wanted fun costumes, a cocktail lounge feel, and a some dancing, but otherwise we left it up to our friends to take it away. ‘Green Light Nights’ captures the spirit of our community on a fun night out.”
“Green Light Nights” anchors Pink Neighbor’s debut LP, Time Beach Universe, out everywhere this Friday (September 13).
