One-sided relationships are somehow even more terribly gruesome. “Call it a disaster,” LA’s Nevve sings, deflated and numb, on a new collaborative track. Miami noise maker PLS&TY cuts open such a wounded state of being alongside producer GANZ for “Motives,” a fizzy-pop, yet heart-rending, club banger doused with rainbow confetti for good measure. “I can see the hearts of the lonely,” Nevve confides to the listener, tugging them onto the dance floor in a warm embrace. While Camila Cabello might advise against it, PLS&TY pokes and prods you to let the tears fall generously in the club, a shower of shimmering streams puddled on the floor. “I wanna feel it all,” rings out as a manifesto, a scarred one at that. The pain might be swollen and charred, it’ll find a soothing agent in the swirling glow of music itself.
“Motives” is just the latest in a long string of legacy-laying singles from PLS&TY ⏤ and we can’t wait for the next one.
