Pop, Lock & Bops: Best of December 2018
Enjoy songs from Sara Wild, New Hope Club, Bellhouse, Cautious Clay, Kennedy and more!
Welcome to Pop, Lock & Bops, a monthly playlist series documenting our favorite windswept country tunes, heartfelt tearjerkers and down-right intoxicating dirty-pop club bangers.
Country bowman Erik Dylan weeps his way through a remarkable cover of Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss‘ 2003 hit “Whiskey Lullaby.” Through spinning it into a solo number, discarding the usual back and forth, Dylan cultivates a performance that is even more profound, as he lugs out the perspective of both whiskey-torn lovers for a performance of a lifetime. In other Dylan news, his Baseball on the Moon record was named one of the Best Albums of 2018 by B-Sides & Badlands, further confirming that outliers are making some damn great music that needs to be heard.
Electronica duo Neo Noir wade through waves of sticky synthetics with “Good Luck,” a lush but gritty disco escape. Meanwhile, Cautious Clay‘s “REASONS” pounds the eardrums, rather relentlessly, but we don’t mind. Rock firebrand Kennedy (BØRNS, Aaron David Gleason) wails into a glitter bomb of electric guitar and funk with “Jimmy Jett,” the titular cut of his new EP, also named one of the 2018’s finest releases. Cam Monroe continues to delight with a magnificent piece of singer-songwriter-slathered pop music with “Control,” stretching his abilities but remaining firmly planted in his tangible truths.
The smorgasbord of talent also includes: Jaida Dreyer, Petrie, Steve Benjamins, Bellhouse, New Hope Club, Sarah Wild and more!
When all is said and done, we’ve got 25 songs to bookend a great year of music.
