Taste Test: Porlolo have had about enough in ‘I Quit’
The indie-rock band quit their day job for a life-long adventure in a new song.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones.
Ask anyone trapped like mice in the machine, the cheese is never actually within an arm’s reach. The 9-to-5 is certainly not for everyone; in fact, it’s mostly a mundane, soul-crushing way to drag yourself through existence. So, when you’ve reached your breaking point, you hop like a little tot off the broke-down carousel and gaze into an uncertain, yet profoundly invigorating, future. Singer-songwriter Erin Roberts, of Colorado indie-rock band Porlolo, found herself picking such a new course for herself. “Get away from it all,” she yowls with new single “I Quit,” an unabashed thumb-biting kiss-off to her former boss. No, really. She quit her day job and wrote this song to commemorate her new lease on life. “I don’t wanna face facts anymore,” she sings, letting the pressure float from her shoulders. The guitars glistening in the sun, and Roberts voice is sore but commanding.
“I Quit” serves as a vital, cathartic one-off single for the band (and we can’t wait to see how they shake it up going forward).
