Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones.

PRIZM‘s “Can’t Bring Me Down” is a retro-suited ’80s glitter bomb. The pop duo swerve through the funkadelic Paula Abdul side-pocket, embroidered with synth-y wonder courtesy of the Bangles and Cyndi Lauper. “No way, no how, can’t bring me down,” they sing in unison. Production shoots like lasers around their voices, sometimes distorted, other times slurping up with a punk/rock snarl. Packed in four minutes, the Dallas-based pair douse the eardrums with an immersive, transportive experience; it’s exactly a smash you would have heard on ’80s pop radio. It’s chewy and tangy, sending a sensation to dance you can’t possibly resist.

“Can’t Bring Me Down” samples the duo’s new album, All Night, slated for fall release.
