The British Americana-inspired duo takes you into a wanderlust world

“Beautiful” is often an overused word, but Rainy Day Woman’s latest song has more than earned the honour. ‘Little Bird’ features a collection of folk instruments, ranging from violin to banjo. Each is perfectly arranged like a auditory tapestry, strings weaving together with elegance and emotion. Hannah Pawson is resplendent as the vocalist, with elflike tones evoking imagery of tall green grass, forests, clifftops and tidal beaches. She is joined by Gabriel Wynne as the second half of the duo, with Kit Massey playing violin, and Andy Hamill on bass. Rainy Day Woman describes the song as “a lonely, wandering song about longing and displacement, about feeling like the tide has left you somewhere you don’t want to be.” The lyrics reflect that: “oh my weary soul/can find no place to go/left travelled on the raging sea.” Especially in these pandemic-stricken times, this is a song that is both relatable and an opportunity for escapism from the unexpected twists of the world.
