Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

Selfies have always been a part of our culture, but thanks to such platforms as Instagram, we are obsessed with ourselves. It’s like constantly looking in the mirror and striking a pose to find the right key lighting. It’s absurd. And this indie-rock duo know it. Repenter ⏤ of monster-sized vocalist Holly Winter and guitarist Thomas Scriven ⏤ dig their claws into the earth to extract ingredients for what soon blossoms as a downright witchy, gnarly concoction. The potion is slimy as it flows down the throat, and Winter’s sickening addictive prowess at the microphone will have you clutching your abdomen (think Ann and Nancy Wilson). “So Sick” shreds Instagram culture with Freddy Krueger-sharpened intensity: it’s visceral and raw and blistering. “I ain’t made at you / But I ain’t afraid of you,” Winter tosses back her hair and howls at the harvest moon. Her frustrations seep from her pores; her fangs glisten; and the song ultimately becomes the anthem of one helluva exhausted generation.

“So Sick” serves as the duo’s debut single.
