Mental health presents a sort of confusing dichotomy. Appearances are only one side of the same corn, burying beneath terrible, uncertain anguish. Lo-fi bedroom pop musician Roet places both versions of himself side-by-side with his dangerously sinister new song. With “If I Look Fine,” he examines the ongoing struggle to balance both as each side swells with tremendous weight and a deep ache to let it all go. “If I look fine, that’s how you know I’m not,” he unties a slimy vocal. His excavations, which have come with flexing his songwriting muscles, strike upon a universal chord, especially these days.
