“It’s human to feel / But I feel and it scares me,” cowers Rook Monroe. He seeks refuge on his piano, striking ivories dazzling in the light, but emotional suffocation is far too much. So, he succumbs to a torrential whirlwind, clutching the hole where his heart should be. It’s left out in the rain instead. On “Pink and Purple,” he grapples with finding that delicate balance of feeling everything and feeling nothing. The grey area doesn’t seem to exist, and he wanders aimlessly, more storm clouds gathering overhead. Music can heal, and perhaps it will. Only time can tell.
“Pink and Purple” follows Monroe’s streaming debut, “Jolie,” from earlier this year.
