Fires rage. Storms roll and crack. The elements, in countless forms, seek to wreak damage. It’s what you do afterward that means the most. Indie-pop band Roses & Revolutions emerge out of a sea of thunderous, angry clouds to reclaim their worth and leave an indelible mark on the world. With a new song called “Still Standing,” which also reads as an empowerment anthem for women, lead vocalist Alysssa Coco’s voice shoots like a falcon over the countryside, as the metaphorical wreckage continues to smolder and burn and crackle. Barebones in structure and feel, it’s the kind of teary stunner that’ll inject confidence directly into the blood stream. “I’m still standing on my own,” she calls over a bed of lone piano. As her emotions begin to run high, so does the production, crescendoing into a cathedral-sized baptismal. She owns her space, unashamed to take up room, and we all could learn a thing or two.
