Taste Test: Ryan Nealon escapes from the past with new song, ‘Lights Out’
The pop newcomer frees himself from an abusive past.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
It took an emotionally abusive relationship for Ryan Nealon to find himself. Once the past had been shattered, leaving shards of all he had endured scattered across the ground, he stood in the light for what felt like the very first time. With his new song “Lights Out,” he casts his trauma further behind him and chooses to be free, finding redemption along the way. “I’ve been feeling less like I need you / To tell the truth / I’ve been feeling more / Like I need to get over you,” he sings, confronting his ex, eye-to-eye. His strength is infectious, and when the production pops and fizzes across the sky, the listener can’t help but be re-energized and liberated, too.
“Lights Out” samples Nealon’s debut EP.
